Andrea (Andi) Romi

Dr. Andrea Romi is a Certified Public Accountant, an Associate Professor within the School of Accounting, and the Co-Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion for the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University. After receiving both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Missouri, Andrea went on to earn her PhD from the University of Arkansas. Her research examines the role of accounting in the social and environmental phenomena facing the world. Dr. Romi has a significant amount of practical work experience which informs her research, including her activities with The Sustainability Consortium from 2007-2010, where she worked with multinational corporations on Life Cycle Assessment, the development of product-specific impact measurements, reporting metrics, and assurance, in addition to serving as the Co-Chair of the Assurance Committee.

Dr. Romi also has provided consulting for several international accounting firms on sustainability initiatives with respect to assurance; has served on the Sustainability Advisory Panel for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); was an invited AICPA academic participant in the International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC) Integrated Reporting Assurance Roundtable; was an invited participant in the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board’s (IAASB) project developing assurance standards for carbon emission reporting; was invited to develop a panel for an external university’s International Conference on Business and Sustainability, focused on the cooperation between academics and world business leaders; and has worked with leading financial services and regulatory technological analysts in developing metrics and benchmarks within the newly state-legal US cannabis industry. In addition to her participation in regulatory metric and assurance development, Dr. Romi’s work has been utilized to drive policy, as evidenced by its reference in the FASB’s appeal to the United States Congress to implement changes to Financial Accounting Standards (FAS) No. 5, Accounting for Contingencies.
