While it’s possible to recycle plastic, approximately 91% continues to end up in landfills. According to Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen), this is a missed $7.8 billion opportunity.
Embracing a systems-thinking mindset, the team at NGen collaborated with Innovation North to dive deep into the issue, interview key players along the value chain and propose some practical solutions to pave a more circular path forward.
The project ultimately helped NGen to identify opportunities to secure supply chains, protect the environment, improve healthcare, support technology adoption, and facilitate digital transformations across Canada’s manufacturing sector.
